HOW MANY LANGUAGES ARE SPOKEN?
Approximately 6,800 languages across more than 220 countries. Some of these countries (such as Barbados, Cuba, North Korea, South Korea, Maldives, Iceland, Liechtenstein) are monolingual, while others harbor hundreds, which is the case of Papua New Guinea.
LANGUAGES BY CONTINENT
1. Africa:
The 780 million people in Africa are spread over 2011 languages, in 30% of the world's languages. Only 14 languages have official status in some of the 54 states in which the continent was divided. The languages of the former colonial or imperial dictatorships still dominate the linguistic landscape of the continent. (see table of the languages of Africa)
2. America:
Since the colonial languages which continue to exert the power of verbal communication.
3. Asia:
The total number of languages of this continent is 2180, representing 33% of the world's languages. The table reveals 34 Asian languages official languages for 49 countries.
4. Europe
There are 50 States in 35 different official languages but 222 local languages. Except some monolingual States, all States have many languages in their territories, Russia, with 56 languages.
5. Oceania:
Eminently linguistic Continent (1,302 languages spread over 27 states, microstates and occupied territories) with a tongue for every 23,000 inhabitants and considering the small population of the region (30 million). (see table of the languages of Oceania)
It´s interesting to know haw many languages are in the world and in every continent. I think it's good to know English for comunicate with the world.

ResponderEliminarThis post is clear about the english is the most importante lenguage in the world. Sadly the old lenguage is forget or the native lenguage, but we need to learn for the work or the new world.
